Learn all about traveling West on the Oregon Trail with this super fun unit study that will bring your learning to life! Great for elementary grades (ages 5-10.)
This is a 4-week unit study that uses 2 books: You Wouldn’t Want to Be an American Pioneer! by Jacqueline Morley and Daily Life in a Covered Wagon by Paul Erickson. Required books can be found on Amazon or on secondhand websites- search titles on bookfinder.com or thriftbooks.com.
Included in this unit is an additional book list, supply list, weekly guide, and multiple activity instructions (with photo examples) and recipes. The weekly guide is broken into 3-4 short, open & go lessons but can easily be joined together or moved around to fit into your schedule. The lessons guide you on what to read, videos to watch, projects or recipe suggestions, map labeling, and prompts to fill in narration notebook pages.
Some fun projects in this guide to bring history to life: make your own covered wagon, oxen craft, potato cake recipe, rag dolls, pioneer toys, maps and more! Throughout the lessons you will also be playing an Oregon Trail game where children complete challenges and roll the dice to determine their fate along the trail!
Guide is 33 pages.

I am using this unit with my 1st and 3rd graders. They’re really enjoying working our way through all of the activities. There’s a good variety of extra reading material listed which I appreciate. All in all we are very happy!
