American Girl History with Caroline is a 4-week study learning what it was like to live during the War of 1812. You will learn about the causes and effects of the war, major battles, important figures, as well as how women and children carried on at home.
Included is a weekly guide through literature, hands-on activities, note booking pages, recipes, crafts, and maps. It is simple, fun, and relatable for children 5-10 to learn history through other children and their families like Caroline.
Some historical topics or people covered in this unit include: President James Madison, First Lady Dolley Madison, Mary Pickersgill, Battle at Fort McHenry, and the Star-Spangled Banner.
A book list, supply list, weekly guides, recipes, and activity instructions (with photos) are all included. Some fun activities in this guide include: making a ship out of egg cartons, learning to tie a Flemish knot, Fort McHenry art project, maps to color & label, build a cannon craft, ginger cakes and other recipes, secret messages, and learning to sew a running stitch.
Read aloud book suggestions are also available for boys or those who don’t wish to read the Caroline stories. Required books: Caroline chapter books 1, 2, 4, 5 (Meet Caroline, Caroline’s Secret Message, Caroline Takes a Chance, Caroline’s Battle) and Mr. Madison’s War by Kassandra Radomski.
