Learn all about the Louisiana Purchase, Lewis and Clark, Sacagawea, and many Native American tribes across the United States! This guide will bring your learning to life through fun books, projects, games, and more! Great for elementary grades (ages 5-10.)

This is a 4-week unit study using 2 books: You Wouldn’t Want to Explore with Lewis and Clark! by Jacqueline Morley and DK Eyewitness: North American Indian by David Murdoch. Required books can be found on Amazon or on secondhand websites- search titles on bookfinder.com or thriftbooks.com.

Included in this unit is an additional book list, supply list, weekly guide, and multiple activity instructions (with photo examples) and recipes. The weekly guide is broken into 3-4 short, open & go lessons but can easily be joined together or moved around to fit into your schedule. The lessons guide you on what to read, videos to watch, projects or recipe suggestions, map labeling, and prompts to fill in narration notebook pages.

Some fun projects in this guide to bring history to life: no sew pouch, bison artwork, tepee snacks, basket weaving, matching animal tracks, learning how to find true North, and a large salt dough map to track the journey as you read all about it.

Guide is 31 pages.

I just finished this unit study with my 9 year old girl (3rd grade) and 7 year old boy (2nd grade). I absolutely loved all the hands on learning opportunities! They remember so much from this study because of how hands on it gets the kids. The salt dough map of the U.S. was genius! We checked out all of the books from the book list from our local library. I didn’t have to buy a single book. I did buy some items for the crafts (I think just a piece of fake leather). It was so inexpensive to create these mementoes that I know the kids will remember years down the road when we talk about Lewis & Clark. Can’t wait to do more of Little School of Smiths studies! Thank you for making these resources!

We did Lewis and Clark and my kids absolutely LOVED it! It was so well planned out in simple and easy to follow instructions. My 6 kids ages (11-3) loved making the baskets and the Salt map was their favorite!!! Thank you so much for sharing your talent! This unit really made it for easy to understand and remember 😀
