Holiday books are some of my favorites and definitely ones that hold special memories with my kids as they are growing up. This year, instead of doing a full Easter curriculum, we are just reading through our collection of great Easter stories.

We have grown our collection a lot over the years and this year I’m wrapping them all up in floral wrapping paper. We will open one up each day leading to Easter, to read together before bed. Very similar to what many do on the 25 days leading up to Christmas. These are beautiful books sharing the Easter story and the symbolism behind a lot of spring/Easter objects.

Scroll to the bottom of this post to find a list of my favorite second hand websites to get a lot of these books for great prices. All the books linked on this post are to Amazon, so you can head there to read a longer synopsis or review of each.

If you can’t afford to purchase a lot of holiday books, definitely check out your local library. Many of these I checked out from the library first, and then purchased the ones we fell in love with later. You can also listen/watch many of these on YouTube.

Here are some of our favorite Easter books:

This book is a mother telling her children the Easter story and the anticipation that builds of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is so sweet and has beautiful illustrations. One of my favorites!

This is such an amazing folktale about the Easter story. I don’t want to spoil it, but it makes me tear up every time! We all love this one!

This book is a broad & quick picture of the entire Bible, from Genesis to Revelation in easy to understand language. A great book to have out all year long. It has amazing illustrations, with so much to look at and enjoy. Definitely one of my kids favorites!

This picture book is the retelling of the first Easter story through the eyes of a child. It is a great analogy of the good news that Jesus is alive and told in a sweet way that all ages can enjoy.

The Legend of the Easter Egg by Lori Walburg

Although a little longer than other books, this is a beautiful story about the symbolism of Easter eggs. “Mary explained. “Just as a chick breaks out of an egg, so had Jesus broken free of the tomb of death. Easter eggs remind us that Jesus conquered death and gives us eternal life.”

One of my favorite stories that teaches my kids so many lessons! “Maggie, the farmer’s daughter, can’t wait to unwrap her gift that arrived in the mail. But her delight turns to disappointment when she doesn’t receive a toy or a doll or a game. Instead, she’s gifted a plant bulb. After forgetting to water the plant, Maggie gets frustrated and tosses the bulb outside—where something amazing happens on Easter morning!”

We love all Jan Brett books and this one is just as amazing! “If Hoppi can make the best Easter egg, he will get to help the Easter Rabbit with his deliveries on Easter morning. But it is not so easy. Discouraged, he goes into the woods to think when a blue robin’s egg tumbles out of its nest. Hoppi keeps it safe and warm until the baby bird hatches, and when the Easter Rabbit arrives, he declares the empty blue eggshell the very best one to reward Hoppi for his kindness.”

The Story of Easter by Helen Dardik

This is a great, and simple, board book about the Easter story for little ones. I LOVE the illustrations and my kids have always been drawn to this one.

I have always wondered why robins eggs were so symbolic of spring and Easter. This story helps explain it, told to a young girl by her grandmother, about a small robin who saw Jesus struggling and soared to help him. A beautiful story to remind us of Jesus’ sacrifice and love for us.

This picture book celebrates the Easter season and rebirth through nature and animals. Bunny learns, after worrying that the Earth may be dying in the fall and winter, that there is hope that spring will come again. A super cute book for kids.

We love the Little Blue Truck books, so of course we have to have the springtime one! This is another favorite of my kids that has fun flaps to lift & open.

This is such a fun book for the kids to search for certain pieces of the Easter story on every page. They love to do this one on their own, anytime. This book would be a great Easter basket gift!

The Donkey Who Carried a King by R. C. Sproul

This book is the newest to our collection, that I purchased this year. It tells the tale of the Easter story through the eyes of the donkey, that got the special task of carrying Jesus into Jerusalem. The illustrations are beautiful and I know my kids are going to love this one.
