Today I’m sharing all the curriculum for my oldest going into 6th grade! I can’t believe it! 🤯
I’m really excited for her 6th grade year and although she still does some extra subjects with us as a family, most of her work will be completed independently! We will also be working on responsibility for her own lessons and time management skills.
Below I’m sharing all her core curriculum, our family subjects for science and history, and a brief idea of our homeschool weekly schedule. (See everything she used for 5th grade HERE.)
**Please take note: You do not have to use the same curriculums I am sharing. Each child learns differently and the blessing of homeschooling is that we have the freedom to tailor curriculum choices to whatever works best for them. We have tried multiple curriculums and I have done extensive research on lots of different things. This is what works best for our family and our needs. 😊

6th Grade Curriculum 2025-2026 School Year
Bible
Meeting With Jesus and Exploring the Bible by David Murray

This book is something my older kids do independently every day as their own Bible reading plan/devotional. She is almost finished with this book Meeting with Jesus by David Murray and really enjoyed it, so will continue this year and start the next one Exploring the Bible.
Each day it gives a short scripture passage for them to look up and read in their bibles, and one simple question to answer after. There is also a place for weekly prayers and memory verses. It is super quick to complete, can be done independently, and is great children ages 6-12. She uses this children’s Adventure Bible alongside this study.

The Mass Unit Study by Into the Deep Co.

This year our family bible study will be this unit study from Into the Deep Co. I’m really excited to use it and have heard great reviews! It goes through and covers every part of the mass and the meaning behind it with readings, activities, copy work, and more. We will do one lesson, once per week together. We might finish this unit study by our winter break, so if we enjoy it, we will do The Beatitudes unit study in the spring.

Language Arts
Essentials in Writing (EIW) Level 6

This school year we are trying EIW (Essentials in Writing) and I think it’s going to work really well for my kids.
EIW has a short video lesson they watch 1-2 times per week and then worksheet pages to practice the concepts learned (just one for each day.) The video lessons are super short, always under 6 minutes. I really like how straightforward and simple the lessons are while incorporating grammar and writing in one, and it can be done independently.
The first half of the year is learning about parts of speech and grammar and then it covers the writing process and projects in the second half. We will be bouncing back and forth between some grammar sections and writing sections to intertwine them throughout the year.
Lots more information on EIW on THIS post.

We all love Fix It Grammar! It is great for extra daily grammar practice! Each week there is one short lesson taught by the teacher/parent and then every day after they are given a sentence to “fix.” They have to find and mark what it asks at the top (nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc.), they have to fix any mistakes (punctuation, capitals, etc.) and rewrite the sentence correctly at the bottom. She started Level 3 last year and only does 2-3 pages per week, so she will continue to finish it in 6th grade.
*You do not have to use both EIW and Fix It Grammar together since they both cover grammar. We are only continuing with Fix It Grammar to finish the book and because my kids enjoy it (it is great for easy weekly review.) Once we get through finishing this book, I will re-evaluate if it is too much or unnecessary to do both before we start the next level.
Level 3 and 4 are for grades 6-8. Yes, you need the teachers guide! It has all the answers to make it easier to quickly check their work and when they come to me with a tricky question.

Literature/Reading
My daughter LOVES to read, so I will continue to assign her one chapter book per month to read. I get ideas on what books to choose based on our unit studies, her personal interests, classics, seasonal books, and many recommendations from Brave Writer books.

These are the books she will be reading this school year:
- September– The Royal Diaries: Cleopatra VII Daughter of the Nile by Kristina Gregory
- October– The Princess Bride by William Goldman
- November– Black Beauty by Anna Sewell
- December– Winterfrost by Michelle Houts
- January– Wings of Olympus by Kallie George
- February– The War That Saved My Life by Kimberly Bradley
- March– The Secret of Honeycake by Kimberly Fusco
- April– Twice Freed by Patricia St. John
- May– Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbit
After finishing each book, she will complete a simple book report. I’m creating something new for her to do this year, so stay tuned! Check out all the fun book reports she has done in the past here: Book Report Blog Post.
*Some of her favorite book series on THIS post!
Spelling
180 Days of Spelling and Word Study Grade 6

This past year she used 180 Days of Spelling and Word Study for 5th grade and really liked it! Spelling comes very naturally to her, so I like that this is more focused on the word study and challenges her. It provides a weekly spelling word list and has daily worksheets to help practice analogies, sentence completions, parts of speech, prefixes, suffixes, synonyms, antonyms, and more.
I definitely feel like this is more focused on the word study than spelling specifically, but they are continuously practicing writing the words over and over when filling in all the blanks. She completes just one page per day. *All answers are provided in the back of the book. No teacher guide necessary.

Math

In the middle of last year we switched from The Good and the Beautiful Math to Teaching Textbooks (read all about it HERE.) She fell in love with it and it greatly helped build her confidence back up about math! She will be continuing on this year with Math 6.
Teaching Textbooks is done independently on the computer (they do have printed textbook options too.) At the beginning of each lesson is a short video teaching the concepts, a few practice problems, and then a ton of review (which I love.) It spirals and comes back to concepts they have learned frequently and has a short quiz every 10 lessons or so.
Even though it is done independently, I get an email notification every day that lets me know the lesson they completed and the grade they got. I can go in to check anything and print additional worksheets for more practice. I have them complete one lesson per day.
*You can try the first 15 lessons for free to see if it is a good fit for your family.
We have a small Chromebook laptop the kids use for any schoolwork and she is easily able to pull it out herself, login, and get her lessons done independently. (Favorite headphones)
THIS graph paper has been super helpful to use as scratch paper alongside her lessons.

Your Business Math Series by Simply Charlotte Mason

I’m so excited to add this math curriculum as a supplement this year and think she will love it! The Your Business Math series teaches and helps kids run their own “store” throughout the course of a year. With three different store types to choose from (book store, pet store, or sports store), your student uses math knowledge to keep their store running and, hopefully, make a profit. They will learn to fill orders, add sales tax, advertising, how to write checks, and more! Chance cards are also drawn at random for additional changes to their store along the way.
I would have LOVED something like this when I was a kid, and since my daughter is an avid reader, I thought she would really enjoy running her own book store.

This is definitely supplemental, so she will work on some of it only once a week throughout the month. You can start this curriculum anytime, however it technically starts with January as the first month to open your store. I might have her wait to start this after winter break, as something fun to come back to, and it will match up with the months.
Science

We are using Beast Academy Science as a family this year and I’m so excited! It is open & go, has lots of hands-on experiments, and multiple topics covered (not just the same unit for an entire year.) We will be starting with the science 3A book this fall that covers motion, weather, and animal survival.
Every unit has fun comic book stories to introduce the topic, colorful lessons and information, questions to answer, and so many simple experiments using household items. (Recommended for ages 8-10)

I think all my kids will love doing this together and it is doable for me without a ton of prep work. I only got one book for us to share, and they will use their own Schoolnest Notebooks to draw and answer questions. If we enjoy this curriculum, we will continue in the spring with the second book (3B) that covers forces, the atmosphere, and traits.
*You can see many more sample pages on their website.
History
Unfolding Ancient History- Ancient Egypt, Ancient Rome, Ancient Greece by Little School of Smiths

This school year we are studying Ancient History! I have been working on a new curriculum coming to my shop that will cover Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome. Each guide will be 6 weeks long and use these amazing fold out books (Unfolding the Past: Ancient Egypt for Kids .) If you are familiar with my other history guides, these will be very similar! Lots of great books to read, notebooking prompts, projects, art, recipes, and more!
Ancient Egypt is available now! The others will release during the school year.

Taking Africa for Jesus by Generations

Although my daughter is joining us as a family for Ancient History, I wanted something she could do independently as well that was a deeper dive and a biblical worldview. She will be using Taking Africa for Jesus as an independent history curriculum.
This curriculum has a textbook where you read through one chapter each week and then a student workbook with questions or maps to fill in at the end of the week. It covers the history of Africa, Ancient Egypt, the spread of Christianity, and missionary work throughout Africa. My daughter loves history, so I think she will really enjoy this too!

*You can see more sample pages of the textbook and student workbook HERE.
Foreign Language-Spanish
Homeschool Languages Spanish 1

This past year we started using this Spanish program from Homeschool Languages and love it! It is so fun and interactive, with lots of games, videos, songs and stories to leam how to speak words and phrases in Spanish. They also offer other foreign language curriculums to choose from: French, Portuguese, Italian, and German.
We have the physical box for Spanish 1 and I highly recommend it! It comes with everything you need, beautifully made, and ready to use!We will continue it next school year. Each lesson is fairly short taking just about 15-20 minutes. We try to do 1-2 lessons per week and review/practice with the workbook on the days in between.
*You can try the first 10 lessons for FREE to see if it is a good fit for your family! Use this LINK!
Schedule
We like to get all our core work/independent checklists done before lunch and then do history or science in the afternoons. This year we are trying more of a large block schedule for history and science and I’m super excited! For the first 6 weeks of the school year, we will focus on history ONLY! After 6 weeks we usually take a week off, then we will study ONLY science for the next 6 weeks, etc.
A typical homeschool day:
• breakfast & bible • get ready for the day • independent work • play break or a walk • Language Arts & Math lesson • lunch • play • reading (30 min) • history or science • clean up • extra curricular activities

These independent checklists are the biggest help in our homeschool, especially with teaching multiple kids/grade levels. She pulls out her checklist first thing when starting school each day and knows exactly what to get done on her own. I am around for help and questions, but most of her work is done independently and I will check it at the end of the day. I’ll share an example of her 6th grade checklist later this summer!
That is everything for her 6th grade year! I’m excited to try some new things for her next year and watch her grow in her learning and independence! If you missed it, I shared everything we are using for my other kids in Kindergarten, 2nd grade, and 4th grade.
