American Girl History with Josefina is a 4 week study learning what is was like to live in the southwestern frontier of America in 1824. It includes a weekly guide through literature, hands on activities, a narration notebook, recipes, crafts, and more! It is simple, fun, and relatable for children to learn through other children like Josefina.

When Josefina was a young girl, New Mexico was not yet part of the United States. However, this guide will take you through the chapters in Welcome to Josefina’s World to explore the culture and history of the area that led it to become part of the United States. These are some of the specific topics the guide covers:

New Mexican culture, Adobe homes & Pueblos, Goats, El Camino Real, and the Santa Fe Trail.

Included is a book list, supply list, weekly guides, recipes, and activity instructions (with photos.) Some fun activities in this guide include: pottery, weaving with a cardboard loom, treasure box craft, and a recipe for Fry Bread, as well as maps and a journal page.

Read aloud book suggestions are also available for boys or those who don’t wish to use the Josefina stories.

Enjoy this fun introduction to American history for early elementary grades or simply add it to your existing American history studies.

This is an amazing in depth (for kids) study of the southwest and we loved it! I learned so much myself while using it with my kids! This was a top unit for my daughter in 2nd grade.
